Our Company History

Founded in 1865 by Elbridge Van Syckel, the company is one of the oldest active real estate companies in the country.

T. Sanford Van Syckel took over the company in 1935 and in 1966 was joined by his son, Thomas S. Van Syckel who currently heads Van Syckel Insurance. At this time Joseph Gorsky, Rich Weaver, Steven Lyte and Jack Gulla operate the real estate company, which was expanded in 1976.

Century 21 Van Syckel ~ Golden Post developed a new regional headquarters which they began to occupy in October of 1998. Prominently located on US Route 22 West and Vosseller Avenue, less than a mile from Routes 287 and 28, the spacious free-standing building has formed the foundation of the company’s future.

Most recently, a Middlesex Branch office was established as the company continues to expand to provide exceptional service and dedication to the clients.

Outfitted with the latest technology, the building’s integrated computer network system provides superior support to the Realtor staff and personnel. Utilizing the company’s mobile office program, associates are fully connected to the very latest data information from any location.

This fine facility is complimented by a hard working, dedicated staff of professionals and support personnel, who have earned local and national awards for production, spirit and service.

Our office is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM till 8 PM. Saturday from 9AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 9AM to 4 PM. We service Central New Jersey, Somerset, Middlesex, and Hunterdon Counties. North of Princeton and South of Morristown.

About Our Owners

Joseph Gorsky: A seasoned Real Estate veteran for over 30 years, Joe holds the designations of NJ Broker, Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager, NJ Certified Residential Specialist, NJ Certified Real Estate Appraiser completing residential and commercial property appraisals, and Graduate of the Real Estate Institute. His educational background includes being the first graduate of the Somerset County College’s Real Estate Certificate program and holds a degree from Rutgers University. Joe has appeared on CNN, WERA, and 1590 AM radio and in various court trials as a Real Estate expert.

Richard Weaver: A renaissance man, Rich has been involved with Real Estate for over 25 years. He has owned a Century-21 franchise, managed the Scotch Plains office for Coldwell Banker, sold Real Estate for REMAX and opened Supermarket of Homes in the late 1980’s. Along the way, Rich has earned his Mortgage Bankers license. He has been processing loans for many years. In addition, Rich has built several homes for resale and is personally responsible for starting a rather lucrative foreclosure business with such giants as GE Capital Mortgage and Berkeley Federal.

Steven Lyte: An experienced businessman for over 30 years, Steve has held managerial positions in Multinational conglomerates involving Accounting, Treasury, Auditing and Financial responsibilities. His educational background consists of a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Finance and Economics. Steve is a member in the Omicron Delta Epsilon honor society in Economics. Steve also holds the Novell Certified Engineer designation and is responsible for the most up to date computer technology system in this office. He is a NJ Licensed Title Producer.

Jack Gulla: A steady symbol in the Real Estate field who made his mark with his ownership of Century 21 Golden Post for over 30 years.

Robert Menditto: In September of 2002 the Company made a decision to hire a full time Broker/Manager and brought Bob on board. Bob has been a licensed real estate broker 20 years. Prior to joining ERA in 2002, Bob managed offices for Prudential and Coldwell Banker. Bob’s area of expertise has been assisting employee’s relocation in and out of Somerset and Middlesex Counties. Bob is responsible for the excellent training and mentoring programs that are in place, making our sales staff very successful professionals. In 2003 Bob suggested creating a formal relocation division to better assist/service clients moving in and out of our service area, thus Van Syckel Relocation was created and a Senior Counselor for Weichert Relocation was brought on as Director of the department.
